About Contemporary Authors:
Contemporary Authors has been published since 1962 and is
the primary directory in the world for author information. Contemporary
Authors is the first place librarians and researchers look for biographical
and bibliographical data on modern fiction and nonfiction writers–including
novelists, poets, playwrights, scriptwriters, journalists, biographers,
essayists, and media people. The inclusion of your personal and professional
data will add to your growing reputation as a writer and make information
about you more widely available to researchers, students, and the general
reading public.
Am I eligible for Contemporary Authors?
If you have had at least one book-length work published in English
by a reputable publisher (not a vanity publisher), you are eligible for
inclusion in Contemporary Authors. Feel free to fill out and submit
our online questionnaire. When our editors have assembled the information
into a prose sketch, we will mail you the completed copy for review. We
will incorporate any changes you wish to make at that time, provided we
hear from you within a specified time period. Submission of a completed
questionnaire does not obligate Gale to publish a sketch on you.
What's the difference between Contemporary Authors
and Contemporary Authors New Revision Series?
When Gale editors first create your sketch, it will be published in
Contemporary Authors. In a couple years, as revision becomes necessary
because you’ve published more works, your sketch will be updated and published
in Contemporary Authors New Revision. Thus, your sketch will only
be published once in Contemporary Authors. All subsequent revisions
(there is no limit on the number of times your sketch can be revised)
will be published in Contemporary Authors New Revision Series.
However, only the most recent version of your sketch will be available
on Gale’s online database, Contemporary Authors Online.
Am I eligible for Contemporary Authors New Revision
Series?
If your sketch has previously appeared in Contemporary Authors,
and you’ve published at least one new work since then, you are eligible
for Contemporary Authors New Revision Series. If you don’t know
whether or not your sketch has appeared in Contemporary Authors,
you may check Gale’s Literary Index at www.galenet.com/servlet/LitIndex.
If you would like a copy of your most recent sketch sent to you, please
send an e-mail to CA-Content.Editor@thomson.com.
Please include the full name your sketch is listed under. Once you submit
your updated information, we will make every effort to include your new
material as soon as possible after we receive it. However, entries without
significant changes may not be revised at this time.
About Something About the Author:
Published since 1971, Something about the Author is the only ongoing
reference series that deals with the lives and works of authors and illustrators
of children’s books, including over 10,000 contemporary and historical
authors to date. The inclusion of your personal and professional data
will both add to your growing reputation in the field and make information
about you more widely available to students, researchers, and the general
reading public.
Am I eligible for Something about the Author?
If you have written or illustrated at least one book-length work for
children or young adults published in English by a reputable publisher
(not a vanity publisher), you are eligible for Something about the
Author.
Does Something about the Author publish updated
sketches?
Yes. If significant changes are necessary to your Something about the
Author sketch, we will consider publishing a revised version in an upcoming
volume of Something about the Author. Please submit new information
using the online Something about the Author form.
Does it cost anything to be listed in Contemporary
Authors, Contemporary Authors New Revision, or Something
about the Author?
No. There is no charge or obligation of any kind for listings in any
Gale product.
Confidentiality and verification:
Please be assured that Gale will not publish your e-mail address,
street address, or phone number without your consent. It is, however,
necessary that you provide a phone number where we can reach you during
business hours in order to verify that the questionnaire we’ve received
was indeed sent by you. No sketches generated via on-line questionnaires
will be published without the verbal consent of the author in question.
Can I fax my completed questionnaire?
Yes. You may fax your completed information for either Contemporary
Authors, Contemporary Authors New Revision Series, or
Something about the Author to (248) 699-8054. Please attach a cover
letter addressing the form to the CA Content Editor.
Usage Agreement:
Author-prepared information in the form of a Contemporary Authors
questionnaire reply and Sidelights essay will be considered part of the
Contemporary Authors database and its distribution channels.
Sketches published in Contemporary Authors and Contemporary
Authors New Revision Series will also be made available on The Gale
Group’s online service, Contemporary Authors Online. Contemporary
Authors Online is available only by subscription. However, occasionally
Gale licenses portions of its database to third parties. By submitting
your on-line questionnaire, you are consenting to all print and electronic
uses of your information that Gale pursues.
