About American Men and Women of Science:
Originally published in 1906 as American Men of Science by J. McKeen
Cattell, American Men and Women of Science is the premier biographical
reference on North American scientists. Now published by Gale, American
Men and Women of Science is widely used by librarians, students and
scientists as the first place to obtain biographical information on active
and distinguished North American scientists.
Am I eligible for American Men and Women of Science?
If you are a scientist and you have made a significant contribution in
your field of endeavor, then you are eligible for inclusion.
If you have received a questionnaire or a request for your information,
then you have been nominated to be included in the next edition. Nominees
are selected by the editors, or recommended by current listees and by
leaders of academic, government and private research programs and associations.
Nominees must satisfy the following criteria:
- Achievement, by reason of experience or training, including contributions
to literature, coupled with continuing activity in scientific work.
- Research activity of high quality in science as evidenced by publication
in reputable scientific journals; or for those whose work cannot be
published due to government or industrial security, research activity
of high quality in science as evidenced by the judgment of the individual's
peers.
- Attainment of a position of substantial responsiblity requiring scientific
training and experience.
Does it cost anything to be listed in American
Men and Women of Science?
No. There is no charge or obligation of any kind for listings in any Gale
product.
Can I fax my completed questionnaire?
Yes. You may fax your completed questionnaire for American Men and Women
of Science at (248) 699-8924. Please attach a cover letter addressing
the form to the AMWS Content Editor.
Confidentiality and verification:
Please be assured that Gale will not publish your e-mail address, street
address, or phone number without your consent. It is, however, necessary
that you provide a phone number where we can reach you during business
hours in order to verify that the questionnaire we have received was indeed
sent by you. No sketches generated via on-line questionnaires will be
published without the verbal consent of the author in question.
Usage Agreement:
Author-prepared information in the form of an American Men and Women
